Kelly Shanahan was an OBGYN with a busy practice when she was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in 2008. She opted for a bilateral mastectomy and immediate implant reconstruction. When her cancer returned in 2013, she was forced to give up her career and undergo 14 months of IV chemo.
After treatment, Shanahan decided to put her experience with the disease to good use: she’s now a consumer reviewer for the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program. She’s also a mother, a wife and a metastatic breast cancer survivor and advocate.
